Treating Bruxism with Neurotoxin

Bruxism is the condition of clenching and grinding your teeth. The continued muscle contractions during sleep not only cause damage to the teeth enamel, but it can result in periodontal disease, implant failure, migraines, and shoulder pain. Many patients have found relief from their bruxism through Botox injections. By going to the source of the problem and reducing contractions of the lower masseter muscles, Botox provides relief to the jaw, teeth, and oftentimes noticeable relief to head and neck tension.

A typical bruxism treatment usually requires 20 to 40 unites of Botox, but this can vary based on the size and strength of patients’ masseters. It takes about two weeks for the full effect of the injections to kick in and effects wear off in about three months for most patients.

Botox is recommended to be administered every three months.

Health and dental insurance policies rarely cover Botox for bruxism. However, we offer discounts for bundled Botox sessions.
